Tammy felt her stomach plummet as Pierce’s attention drifted away from her again—just as it did the other night at his apartment. Instead of turning to her for support, he turned away. Tammy’s leg was nudged and she turned to look at Paige. Paige’s eyes were wide as she tried to gesture quietly to start plan “B”.

After the women had talked about catching the bad guys and before looking over lingerie, they had come up with a plan to catch Pierce’s attention and hold it.

“Now is so not the time,” Tammy whispered. “He’s upset.”

“It’s the perfect time. It’ll take his mind off of it.” Paige shot her a quick smile. “Well! Thanks for dinner, Ma. It was wonderful as always. Annie, should we take the children into the living room to play?”

“Oh! Can I come, too? I’d love a little girl talk. Tammy, would you care to join us?” Katelyn asked as she stood up.

“What a wonderful idea!” Marcy clasped her hands together and looked at the table. “Well, boys, why don’t you clean up while we chat. Neely Grace, maybe if we ask nicely enough, Tammy will tell us all about that incredibly gorgeous man she brought to the wedding.” Marcy gracefully arose from the table with Neely Grace and followed the women into the living room. Annie hid a laugh in the baby blanket as she lifted Sophie out of the high chair.

“Jeez, Paige, did you have to tell your mom?” Tammy asked mortified at what was unfolding in front of her.

“I didn’t!”

Marcy and Neely Grace joined them in the living room. She met their shocked faces with a large smile on her face. “Oh please, I’m a mother of six. I know everything. Now sit back and learn.” Marcy shot them a sly grin and then gasped. She tapped Tammy’s arm and laughed, “Oh, how positively wicked! Well, when in Greece, right?” Marcy tittered.

“What is this about?” Neely Grace asked as she turned her back to the men all staring at them to lean in closer to the tight group of women gossiping.

“Men, dear. See, Tammy here has been in love with my son for two years.” Tammy thought she’d burst into flames at the mortification of this conversation. “And my son has been too dumb to realize a good thing right in front of his face. For two years, he’s been fluttering around with, frankly, bimbos. Tonight I’m putting a stop to it.”

“You? We’re putting a stop to it,” Katelyn whispered while she kept a smile on her face.

“Well, watch and learn, ladies. It’s not as if I went up to Jake and put some of my fried chicken in front of him to win him over. Nope, forty years ago he was the catch of the town. I haven’t forgotten all my mama taught me,” Marcy winked.

“And you’re hooking me up with Henry as a distraction?” Neely Grace asked with slight confusion in her perfectly smooth Southern voice.

“Oh, that was just a perk. No, I think you’re great for each other.
